SBS Season V • Competition #2 • Psychedelia!

POSTER 8.5x11

For the 5th year running, the Spot is hosting the Spot Bouldering Series.  This unique series features four comps, each with its own theme.  In addition to the 50 new problems set for each comp, there will be food from Wahoo’s, drinks, beer from Avery brewing, a huge raffle and swag toss, beats from DJ Dirt Monkey, a pro finals problem where everyone gets to watch the top open competitors battle it out, and a special event that anyone can participate in that fits in with the theme.

The first comp, The Gun Show, was held on Saturday, September 26th.  The special event was a pull-up contest (i.e. a gun show), which was won by Shawn Raboutou (men) and Annika Heid (women).  The pro finals were won by Adam Markert (men) and Alex Puccio (women).  You can see results from the climbing portion of the event on the Spot’s main webpage.  Additionally, there was a short write-up on Rock and Ice online and pictures have been seen circulating on Facebook.  Update::Gunshow 2009 on Vimeo from Wade David!

Next up: Psychedelia!!!

This blacklight comp is our most anticipated event of the year.  We close on the Wednesday prior to the event so we have plenty of time to set the problems, decorate the gym, and hang the blacklights.

The youth competition runs from 12pm to 3pm.  The citizens & open competition starts at 5pm and ends at 8pm (registration opens at 4pm).  We will then hold the raffle, costume contest, and pro finals.

Don’t forget to wear your blacklight-friendly costume!

    Hi,
We LOVED the youth routes this year. My youngest always got pretty discouraged last year at the comps and we had a hard time getting him to climb with us. Now he thinks he’s great and we’re all excited to get back to the gym together. Thanks for adding these!
